Welding Anti-Spatter and Special Application Products

ACCA welding anti-spatter products are developed to reduce the adhesion of molten metal particles to welding torches, nozzles, fixtures and workpieces during continuous-wire welding. Non-silicone liquid, ready-to-use, odourless and aerosol options help reduce post-weld cleaning time and simplify surface preparation before painting. The range also includes graphite and boron-nitride-based lubricants and release products for high-temperature applications.

During continuous-wire welding processes such as MIG and MAG welding, small droplets of molten metal may be projected around the welding area. These particles can adhere to workpieces, welding torches, nozzles, fixtures, worktables and other equipment, forming hard weld spatter.

Removing adhered spatter by grinding, scraping or wire brushing requires time and labour. Mechanical cleaning can cause scratches, abrasion or dimensional changes. Spatter accumulated on torches and nozzles may also affect shielding-gas flow and wire-feeding stability, reducing welding quality.

Welding anti-spatter products create a thin release layer on the treated surface before welding. This layer limits the strong adhesion of hot metal droplets and helps make post-weld spatter easier to remove.

For parts that will subsequently be painted or coated, the welding product should be free from silicone. Silicone residues can cause craters, fisheyes and adhesion problems in painted surfaces. ACCA SALD products are formulated without silicone with subsequent painting processes in mind.

The range also includes graphite and boron-nitride-based dry-film lubricants. These products form lubricating and release layers between surfaces in applications involving high temperature, friction and mechanical stress.

CERAMIZZANTE NB AEROSOL HD 239

A specialised boron-nitride-based lubricant and release aerosol. It withstands temperatures above 900 degrees Celsius and forms an extremely hard film after complete solvent evaporation.

The resulting film provides resistance to mechanical stress and environmental exposure. It can be considered for reducing adhesion and providing controlled release at very high temperatures.

Main characteristics:

- Boron-nitride-based formulation
- Withstands temperatures above 900 degrees Celsius
- Forms a hard film after solvent evaporation
- Lubricating and release action
- Resistant to mechanical stress
- Protective film against environmental exposure
- Suitable for special very-high-temperature applications

How Welding Anti-Spatter Products Work

The product is applied to a clean surface in a thin, uniform layer before welding. The film creates a physical barrier between molten metal droplets and the treated surface.

Particles reaching the surface during welding contact this layer and cannot bond as strongly. After welding, spatter can be removed more easily using a brush, cloth or light mechanical action.

Excessive product may create residue, fumes, porosity or additional cleaning requirements before painting. The thinnest effective and uniform layer should be applied.

Recommended General Application Sequence

1. Pre-cleaning

Oil, grease, dust and previous process residues are removed using a suitable cleaner.

2. Product Selection

The appropriate SALD product is selected according to application method, odour requirements, flammability conditions and subsequent painting.

3. Thin-Film Application

The product is applied in a thin, even layer around the welding area, on fixtures or equipment. Excessive wetting of the joint and weld pool area should be avoided.

4. Welding

Welding is performed after any waiting or drying time specified in the technical instructions.

5. Final Cleaning and Inspection

Loosened spatter is removed after welding. Surfaces intended for painting or coating are cleaned and inspected according to the requirements of the subsequent process.

Application and Safety Statement

Welding anti-spatter products do not eliminate welding fumes or other hazards associated with welding. Suitable fume extraction, ventilation, face and eye protection, welding gloves and protective clothing must be used.

Aerosols must not be sprayed onto hot surfaces, open flames or an active welding arc. The product should be applied before welding and under the conditions stated in the technical instructions.

Paint compatibility should be verified under actual production conditions for critical surfaces. Excessive application that may affect weld quality should be avoided.

For graphite and boron-nitride products, surface cleanliness, applied film thickness and drying time affect film performance. The latest technical data sheet and safety data sheet should be reviewed before use.
