PP Vacuum Forming Sheet Production Line

PP vacuum forming sheets are widely used products in packaging and industrial thermoforming applications. Depending on the application, formulations with fillers such as talc are required to improve the mechanical performance of PP sheets or to reduce material costs. In the conventional production approach, this process is usually carried out in two stages: first, PP is compounded with fillers and additives and pelletized; then, in a second line, the pellets are re-melted and extruded into sheets.

The PP Vacuum Forming Sheet Production Line simplifies this two-stage structure through a twin-screw direct extrusion approach. Thanks to inline compounding, raw materials and additives are mixed and melted in a single line and formed directly into sheets through the die. As a result, the pelletizing step is eliminated, making the process more flexible, faster, and more efficient.

What Does This Line Offer?

One-step production with inline compounding
Instead of the traditional compounding + pelletizing + sheet extrusion sequence, raw material mixing and sheet extrusion are integrated into a single line. This shortens the production flow and simplifies operations.

High flexibility in formulation changes
With inline compounding, filler ratios, additive packages, and target material properties can be adjusted quickly. This flexibility is a major advantage for thermoforming producers with a wide product portfolio.

Optimized infrastructure for filled PP sheet production
The use of fillers such as talc is common in PP sheets. Twin-screw systems provide strong mixing capability for homogeneous distribution of fillers and additives, resulting in more stable quality and consistent product properties.

Optimization of investment and operating costs
Eliminating the pelletizing step creates potential savings in equipment, energy, floor space, and operational costs. In addition, the shorter process simplifies production planning and logistics.

Application Areas

PP vacuum forming sheets are commonly used in the following applications:
• Thermoformed packaging products such as containers, trays, and blister-type solutions
• Industrial protective packaging
• Thermoformed parts for product handling and stacking
• Application-specific filled PP sheet solutions

Production Process

A typical process layout includes the following steps:
• Controlled feeding of PP raw material, fillers (such as talc), and additives
• Melting and homogeneous mixing in a twin-screw extruder using inline compounding
• Direct sheet extrusion through a sheet die
• Cooling, hauling-off, and thickness stabilization
• Winding or cutting, depending on plant requirements

Why Twin-Screw Direct Extrusion?

Twin-screw direct extrusion technology combines masterbatch or compound preparation and sheet extrusion in a single line, simplifying the overall process. The inline compounding approach provides greater flexibility for formulation changes and eliminates the need for pelletizing. As a result, the production of filled PP sheets can be managed in a more practical and efficient way.
